Elaine Wang, MFA, RYT 200 believes all human beings have an intrinsic right and desire to connect intimately to themselves and to the world around them. She has discovered how traditional eastern healing systems may be coupled with modern dance to create a unique way to realize this desire.

Elaine is an educator, choreographer, and dancer with nearly 20 years of professional experience. She has worked at a wide range of organizations in Los Angeles and New York City with students ranging from toddlers to senior citizens.

While in Los Angeles, Elaine was a member of Trip Dance Theater and JazzAntiqua Dance and Music Ensemble. During her time in New York City, she toured with Liz Lerman Dance Exchange, as well as performed with Yin Mei Dance and Stephan Koplowitz.

From 2005-2007, she cofounded her own dance company, Lee & Wang Dance with Lenora Lee. Ever interested in multi-disciplinary work, her dance and science video, “Folding On Time,” in collaboration with physicist Dr. Lin won the “2013 Department of Energy’s Communicate Your Science Award.”

She currently released her first dance film, “Day of Embrace: Meditation I – Southern California,” with dance artist Michael Richter and photographer Henry Jun Wah Lee.

Elaine received her BA degree in Dance from UCLA after spending one year at The Juilliard School, an MFA in Dance from NYU’s prestigious Tisch School of the Arts, a Physical Education Credential from UCLA, and a 200-hour yoga certification from YogaWorks Studio in Los Angeles. Elaine herself is a confluence of East and West; her repertoire of movement forms include modern, ballet, jazz, yoga, tai chi, and qigong.

Journey into In-Dwell

As a teacher with the Los Angeles Unified School District, Elaine developed comprehensive dance, yoga, and physical education curriculum. From 1998-2002 she served as one of the first seven dance teachers to create and integrate dance curriculum into LAUSD elementary schools through the Arts Prototype Program.

From 2007-2009, Elaine worked as an arts provider for LAUSD, teaching dance, yoga, and qigong to students and their teachers, led ongoing staff developments, and mentored fellow dance and yoga professionals in the educational setting.

Finally, she served as a dance faculty member at Ramon C. Cortines Visual and Performing Arts High School, Los Angeles’s flagship arts high school, from 2009-2011. During this time Elaine played an instrumental role in establishing the school’s dance program and developed a physical education curriculum that incorporated yoga, tai chi, dance, and improvisation. She also led the faculty in numerous professional developments in arts integration and stress reduction techniques.

She currently teaches wellness classes in corporate settings and serves as the fitness specialist for West Coast Fertility Center’s “Fertility Fitness Program.”

Having worked with thousands of individuals with diverse physical and emotional needs at various stages in their lives, Elaine has gathered invaluable insights and experience that have naturally led her to the vision of In-Dwell.
